tips that have come to mind as I update the site.
Over time I'm sure it will add up to
some useful tidbits for you to take and put in your back pocket. |

Always prioritize your lines
so that gear is in the water at all times. For example if
you are going to run a spoon and an anchovy, drop the spoon
down first before taking the time to rig up the bait, get
out the toothpicks, etc. This goes after fish are landed as
well. I always put down the bait that is easiest/fastest to
get fishing first. |

Sharpen your hooks before each
trip. The only brand I know of that sells its hooks sharp,
is Gamakatsu; although there are probably others that are
lazer sharpened. However, when in doubt, sharpen your hooks
so they pass the 'fingernail sticky test'. A hook should
stick to your fingernail when lightly touching and not slide
across it. Always, always, always fish with sharpened hooks.
It will increase your hookup rate for sure, and will turn
strikes into more fish on the line. |

If
you're not happy with where you are fishing, move! Too many days
in my life have I been sitting there 'bucking the tide' (you are
moving at the same speed as the current, and therefore
geographically are not moving anywhere). The odds of fishing
sitting there in the tide with you are slim, first of all. And
second of all, if your gut doesn't have a good feeling about the
place, it's probably for a reason. Although picking up and moving
can be a pain in the rear, it is well worth it for the 5 minutes
it will take. There is nothing worse than seeing the bite come on,
from a distance, or over the radio! |
