FRESHWATER RESOURCES

If you are interested in freshwater fishing, there is endless reading on this.

My recommendation is that you start off reading websites such as AnglingBC.com, SportfishingBC.com, FishingwithRod.com, and use Google.

There are many good books out there, however in the days of the internet, this is not always necessary. There is alot of reading online.

BC Backroad Mapbooks, available at most bookstores, will give good maps for accessing various offroad locations, as well as what river/lake has what species, and what facilities.

For fishing for salmon in the lower mainland, try streams such as the Vedder-Chilliwack, Chehalis, Harrison, Stave and Squamish.

If you are on the island, the Cowichan, Nitinat, Campbell, Stamp-Somass and Gold are all world class salmon rivers. There are countless more in between.

I was into saltwater fishing for years before I began freshwater fishing, and am still getting better bit by bit. It is a totally different ball game.

I am currently reading "Colour Guide to Steelhead Drift Fishing" by Bill Herzog, and find going through past BC Sportfishing magazine issues quite helpful.

Hopefully this is enough to start you in the right direction, however freshwater salmon fishing is not my area of expertise, so I will not go into it. All I recommend is to go read and I'm sure your local tackle store would be glad to get you started!
