SALMONSTRUCTIONS.COM HOW TO BECOME A BETTER SALMON
FISHERMAN
Welcome to Salmonstructions. The
purpose of this site is to serve as yet another reference aid for the
west coast saltwater salmon angler. My experience in particular is off
of Vancouver Island and surrounding area, including some of the mainland.
I have been fishing off the coast of BC all my life.
The concept here is to help.
Nobody to tell you to "figure it out on your own", or "it's my
secret". Any fishing knowledge of mine, or as much of anybody
else's as I can, will be on here. Bottom line, I love to catch
salmon, and hope this website allows you to catch more yourself.
This website has two parts. The
links you see to the left, but more importantly, the
Salmonstructions section. It is a guide of several webpages that
have techniques, methods, help, tips and information on species,
tackle, depth and so on. I have tried to spell out as much as I
can on paper to help others enjoy salmon fishing as much as I
do, and to try and be as successful as possible.

I have altered the
layout slightly so that all pages are accessible from each
other. I have also started Random Fishing Tips, below. I will
archive these so they are all kept for future reference.

I jotted down a
quick article on Leaving Prepared.
Although there isn't much to say, I noted a couple things I do
the night before and morning of to ensure I have everything.

Uploaded my first
article, Catching Chum Salmon out
of Brown's Bay. I summed up a trip we took last fall to the
Campbell River area and ended up with some nice Chum in the
boat.

Random Tip #3
If you're not happy with where
you are fishing, move! Too many days in my life have I been
sitting there 'bucking the tide' (you are moving at the same
speed as the current, and therefore geographically are not
moving anywhere). The odds of fishing sitting there in the
tide with you are slim, first of all. And second of all, if
your gut doesn't have a good feeling about the place, it's
probably for a reason. Although picking up and moving can be
a pain in the rear, it is well worth it for the 5 minutes it
will take. There is nothing worse than seeing the bite come
on, from a distance, or over the radio!
Beginners:
Starting out, in the ocean, fishing for
salmon, can be difficult and confusing to say the least. For those of
you who are new to the saltwater fishing scene, take a look at the
actual Salmonstructions portion of
the site for how to get started and be successful!
Intermediate:
For those of you who have been around
for a while and have the basics down, you might find sections of the
Salmonstructions helpful. Otherwise
I recommend you look at:
For those of you
looking to expand into freshwater salmon angling.
Advanced:
For those of you who have been around
the block and live, eat and breathe salmon, hopefully there is something
here you find useful. In all honesty, hopefully you have something to
add, suggest, (article) to submit, or any other help for everyone to
benefit from. The day I stop learning about fishing for salmon in the
saltchuck is the day I'm dead. I welcome all suggestions or articles you would like to contribute to the site. Just email me if you would like to write something or link to us.
