SALMONSTRUCTIONS.COM HOW TO BECOME A BETTER SALMON
FISHERMAN
Welcome to Salmonstructions. The
purpose of this site is to serve as yet another reference aid for the
west coast saltwater salmon angler. My experience in particular is off
of Vancouver Island and surrounding area, including some of the mainland.
The concept here is to help.
Nobody to tell you to "figure it out on your own", or "it's my
secret". Any fishing knowledge of mine, or as much of anybody
else's as I can, will be on here. Bottom line, I love to catch
salmon, and want you to catch more!
This website has two parts. The
links you see to the left, but more importantly, the
Salmonstructions section. It is a guide of several webpages that
have techniques, methods, help, tips and information on species,
tackle, depth and so on. I have tried to spell out as much as I
can on paper to help others enjoy salmon fishing as much as I
do, and to try and be as successful as possible.

I have altered the
layout slightly so that all pages are accessible from each
other. I have also started Random Fishing Tips, below. I will
archive these so they are all kept for future reference.

I jotted down a
quick article on Leaving Prepared.
Although there isn't much to say, I noted a couple things I do
the night before and morning of to ensure I have everything.

Uploaded my first
article, Catching Chum Salmon out
of Brown's Bay. I summed up a trip we took last fall to the
Campbell River area and ended up with some nice Chum in the
boat.

After starting work on these pages just over 3 years ago, I have
finally put everything together and uploaded it to the web. I
hope people find it useful. I will definitely be writing
articles as I think of fishing topics/experiences to write
about.

Random Tip #2
Sharpen your hooks before each
trip. The only brand I know of that sells its hooks sharp,
is Gamakatsu; although there are probably others that are
lazer sharpened. However, when in doubt, sharpen your hooks
so they pass the 'fingernail sticky test'. A hook should
stick to your fingernail when lightly touching and not slide
across it. Always, always, always fish with sharpened hooks.
It will increase your hookup rate for sure, and will turn
strikes into more fish on the line.
Beginners:
Starting out, in the ocean, fishing for
salmon, can be difficult and confusing to say the least. For those of
you who are new to the saltwater fishing scene, take a look at the
actual Salmonstructions portion of
the site for how to get started and be successful!
Intermediate:
For those of you who have been around
for a while and have the basics down, you might find sections of the
Salmonstructions helpful. Otherwise
I recommend you look at:
For those of you
looking to expand into freshwater salmon angling.
Advanced:
For those of you who have been around
the block and live, eat and breathe salmon, hopefully there is something
here you find useful. In all honesty, hopefully you have something to
add, suggest, (article) to submit, or any other help for everyone to
benefit from. The day I stop learning about fishing for salmon in the
saltchuck is the day I'm dead. I welcome all suggestions or articles you would like to contribute to the site. Just email me if you would like to write something or link to us.
